The Granary
Church Farm, Dennington, Nr Framlingham, Suffolk
On any Suffolk farm the granary was always one of the main buildings because apart from the farmhouse itself it was normally the only two storey building on the farm. This allowed the precious corn harvest to be stored safe out of harms way and under lock and key on the first floor, while in this particular granary the ground floor was used as a stable and harness room for the Suffolk horses that worked the land.
Once restored and converted accommodation will comprise of a beamed entrance hall and stairwell, to the right of which will be the kitchen/diner, that will be fitted with solid wood units, butler sink, range cooker and quality appliances. Leading from the kitchen will be a separate utility room.
The sitting room is on the first floor above the kitchen to make the most of the views over the front garden and paddock. There will be a cosy wood burning stove and oak flooring. The original beams of the walls and vaulted ceiling will be left exposed and this high ceiling will also be present in the master-bedroom which shares the first floor where it has views over the pond and landscape beyond. The three further bedrooms are downstairs, two have courtyard views and one has a lovely view over the pond. The family bathroom is adjacent to these bedrooms.
A feeling of quality will pervade throughout, solid oak ledge doors with Suffolk latches will open to all rooms, a cooking range and solid wood surfaces of your choice will grace the kitchen. Oil fired central heating to classic column radiators will warm the other rooms. Wherever possible the original beams and structure of the barn will be revealed. The roofs will be tiled with hand made clay pan tiles and the exterior walls clad in traditional black shiplap. Traditional style ironmongery will be used on the windows and doors while all external glass will be doubled glazed and toughened where necessary.
Outside the courtyard at the rear will be paved in sandstone and the driveway to the front will be gravelled. The paddock stretches away to the front and side of the barn.
